"Chaconne in G minor" by Louis Couperin performed by Glenn Goda, organist
Marshall & Ogletree would like to specially thank Glenn Goda for his outstanding playing and for making this project and these videos possible. This is a daring comparison of the historic Hutchings organ at The Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Boston, MA ("The Mission Church"), with an M&O digital replica of the same organ. The video features the same music played by the same organist, on the same stops, in the same room, on the same evening - all brought together in an A/B listening format for critical comparative listening. It is as direct a comparison of pipe and digital sounds as you will ever hear.

His light and shade is excellent. Some organists play this piece and it sounds ‘muddy’.. his rendition is spot on. Sad that this talent, brain, skill, and being has passed.
Thank you so much for sharing. Beautiful played.
I love this hymn and this video. I think it must take a lot of electricty to run both organs at the same time.
This organist made the music alive by merging technical ability and emotion because the music which eminate from the organ can almost be touched.
The music is played with such emotion.
I remember playing this on a Hammond organ when I became the organist at my RC church in my teens. Much better on pipe organ!!
I was referring to the Lemmens Fanfare
That's by far the best performance of that piece!
Love this! So beautiful and calming
No need to play the fuge so fast. Ruins it
Such a beautiful, heavenly sound. Thank you for the comfort and peace it brings.
Definitely The Fox Touch!!
Excelent playing, however the accoustics in the room are dreadfull. Impropper accoustics can sabotage the dominance of any organ
Love this piece: it invited luscious strings & at the end for that solo section; strangely a soft reed can also be used
Simplesmente maravilhoso! Bela performance desse grande organista!
Muito pujante essa peça! Bela interpretação do organista!
Fantástico! Que grandiosidade! Bach é sem dúvida o maior de todos! Grande interpretação deste exímio organista!
Where can I buy this score for organ. Thanks
Hi @elijahh8183, I play it from the Dupre edition although there are a number of other editions out there from a variety of publishers. As to availability, I don't know if the print edition is available but I found this link online. Looks a bit pricey but it contains six concerti: www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/product/16-concertos-vol-1-organ-20748267.html
The intricate delicacy of which Bach was such a master. Amazing and beautiful.
Glenn 💜
Les morceaux d'orgue ou d'harmonium sont de très belles pièces qui méritent d'être redecouvertes...
I started studying the organ at 14, saw Virgil Fox in concert at age 20. His arrangements are very emotional. He was quite a dynamic performer, had all of us on our feet singing, "Adeste Fideles" while he played his Allen touring organ. Magnificent! Very nice interpretation by Mr. Marshall.
Makes me want to cry, it goes deep in your soul
The strings stops are sublime.
I love the attention to authentic Spanish organ practice while also adding some more modern elements. I think my only complaint would be that the soprano is a bit overpowering compared to the alto & quegli sotto, but that could also be a product of the recording and my headphones too!
Wonderful performance!
Great maestro but playing tooo fast sometimes
Played at the end of the service in Chichester Cathedral, 7//74. Wondrous. Jehan Alain was a War hero for the French Army killed aged 29 leaving behind his wife and three children. God bless him.
Eccellente.
Wow wow wow
My brother played this at my wedding 53 years ago. It is very special to us. This is my favourite version on RUclips.
Whatever you think of the performance (personally I find it excellent but a shade fast) it's astonishing to learn that the late Mr Coriddi was self-taught.
A wonderful performance. Glenn will be deeply missed.
Jesus Bleibet Meine Freude. Das hat mir gefallen.
Absolutely splendid improvisation!
Artfully done my friend!❤
What a beautiful treatment of one of my favourites. Many thanks, Paul
It was a great pleasure to listen to this recording.
Brilliant performance but the acoustics are terrible
Thank you for this upload. Here in June 2024
it wasn't one of my favorites, but it is a good Hymn.
First heard this composition at Riverside with Virgil Fox playing years ago. A pleasure to hear it once again. Thanks-you, Doug.
Another great harmonic treasure on an amazing digital instrument. Thanks!
Thanks for this gem, Doug.
Does anyone know what he played or how he harmonised the transition and the last part. I'm completely mesmerised and in awe of his talent.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. This arrangement was written by Robert Hebble and was published in a book entitled, "Robbert Hebble's Hymnal Companion," published by Bradley Publications. Tragically, it is out of print. There are used copies that show up online periodically but I couldn't find any when I was looking today. Mr. Hebble was an extraordinary composer, arranger and organist.
@@organpower Thank you so much. Was he also the performer in this video? If not, kindly provide the name of the performer. Many thanks.

Wonderful, would love to hear a piano transcription of this.
In heaven, there is a radio station that plays all Bach all the time. East of the Jordan its call letters are WBCH, and west of the Jordan KBCH.
One of my favourite pieces...."for the day of death is better than the day of birth...."
